Bill Smith Homeless Veterans Project

The Bill Smith Homeless Veterans Project is part of the Government Benefits Unit of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA).  The project operates from the offices of the Inner City Law Center at 1309 East Seventh St. in downtown Los Angeles.  Off-street parking is provided for volunteers.

More than one-third of the homeless in Los Angeles County are veterans of military service.  They need advocates to assess what assistance they are entitled to receive and represent them through administrative hearings and court proceedings.

Pro bono attorneys are needed to represent homeless veterans.

Law student and pre-law student externs and volunteers are especially needed to assist in researching and developing individual cases, work directly with clients, and to provide paralegal/clerical support for the project.  This is an exceptional opportunity for those seeking to learn a great deal about the justice system in a relatively short period of time.
