Santa Monica Courthouse Domestic Violence Clinic

Santa Monica Courthouse, 1725 Main Street

  • Every 15 seconds a woman is battered in the United States.
  • Almost 4 million American women are physically abused by their husbands or boyfriends each year.
  • Each year, an estimated 3.3 million children are exposed to violence by family members.

The Santa Monica Courthouse Domestic Violence Clinic helps victims of abuse with Temporary Restraining Orders and other aspects of family law, including divorce, child support, and child custody. New Volunteer trainings are held three times a year, in January, June, and September.

Volunteer attorneys and law students work directly with victims of abuse to help them escape their batterers and begin new, independent lives. The Clinic is open weekday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers must stay until all clients are seen, occasionally as late as noon or 12:30.  Free parking at the courthouse is provided for all volunteers.

Volunteer attorneys must commit to attending at least one clinic per month for at least six months. Volunteer law students must attend at least one clinic per week for a semester, approximately 15 clinics. Bilingual Spanish or Farsi speaking volunteers are always welcome. All volunteers must apply and be approved prior to attending a training.
