Medi-Cal
What is it?
Medical is California’s program to pay for medical care for low-income people.
Who can qualify?
You are a California resident. You get SSI, CalWORKs, Foster Care, Refugee Cash Assistance. The following groups get Medi-Cal
- Pregnant women
- Children under age 21
- Adults 65 and older
- People of any age who are blind or disabled by Social Security standards
- Caretaker relative of minor child under 21
- Refugees
- People living in long term care facility
- People infected with tuberculosis
- Women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer
- You meet the income limits (depends on how many people in your household and under which category you are eligible)
- You meet the resource limits (depends on how many people in your household)
How to apply
- Call (877) 597-4777 to get an application mailed to you
- Go to a DPSS office
- Some hospitals and clinics also provide applications
Your rights when you apply
- You have the right to apply
- The County must notify you within 45 days of the application if you have been approved or denied
