Foster Care

What is it?
Foster care benefits are cash aid benefits for the child only and include Medi-Cal for the child. 

Who can Qualify?

  • If you are caring for a child in your home who is NOT related to you, and was placed with you by DCFS (Department of Children and Family Services) or by a licensed Foster Family Agency, AND
  • You are either the child’s legal guardian or your home is a state licensed foster care home
  • If you are caring for a related child, you may be eligible for Foster Care as a YOUAKIM case.  You are eligible if:
  • The child was removed from the parents and placed with you by an order of Dependency Court
  • DCFS is responsible for the child’s placement and care
  • The child received or was eligible to receive CalWORKs in the month DCFS asked the court to remove the child from the parents or within six months prior to that

Other Benefits

  • Foster Care benefits for unrelated legal guardian
  • Kin-Gap for relative who is not a legal guardian
  • Adoption Assistance to help families adopt children
