Human Trafficking : General Information
TVPA defines severe forms of trafficking as the recruitment,
harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person
for:
| commercial sex | |
| induced by force, fraud, or coercion OR | |
| in which the person is induced to perform such act has not yet reached 18 years of age | |
| OR | |
| labor or services | |
| through the use of force, fraud, or coercion AND | |
| for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery. | |
The TVPA seeks to:
| Protect victims and provide them with necessary benefits once they have escaped traffickers. | |
| Prosecute traffickers by imposing criminal penalties. | |
| Prevent trafficking by committing US resources to international anti-trafficking efforts. |
