A Great Result From a Great Volunteer
One of our volunteers, Lee Welinsky, achieved a great result for a client who had a problem obtaining accurate information about his pension.
Our client, age 69, retired several years ago from a position with Wells Fargo Bank. He was receiving social security and was also eligible for a pension from his employer.
Despite years of service, his pension amount was only $84.71 per month, but general information from the pension administrator, Metropolitan Life, indicated that he should have been receiving from $335 to $445 per month based upon his age at retirement.
Lee telephoned the pension fund, and provided them with a release and proper identifying information. The pension fund claimed that the problem was with information provided by the employer. Lee traced the problem to its source and discovered that the former employer and the pension fund had an incorrect birth date for the client.
Lee tracked down all the necessary information, verifying the client's proper age and demonstrating that he was entitled to full benefits. Recently, the client came to the office with two documents: A notice showing that his new pension amount was $445.63 (instead of $84.71) per month and a retroactive payment of $20,935.68 for the years of underpayment!
The client is very happy and we are very proud of Lee's work.
