Consumer Law
Family Law and domestic violence
Government Benefits
Tenant/ landlord disputes



Consumer Issues
We assist persons who have problems with:
Debt
Wage garnishment
Disputes or questions about the purchase or leasing of various goods or services

Clients are seen on Tuesday and Thursday evenings by signing up for a clinic appointment or making a daytime appointment.

Family Law/Domestic Violence
Low-income Santa Monica residents may receive counsel and advice or assistance with family law/domestic violence problems.

Because there are more people seeking help than we can accommodate, we give priority to parents who:
Have custody of their children
Are victims of domestic violence
Have had a child kidnapped

Those seeking assistance must first call us at (310) 899-6200 for an appointment. We have an appointment-only counsel and advice clinic on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.

Domestic Violence Project
The domestic violence project located in the Santa Monica Courthouse, operates every weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for intake, until the documents are completed.

We assist victims of domestic violence obtain:
Temporary restraining orders
Child custody and visitation orders
Other family law orders

We assist them through the entire process to obtain a three-year restraining order after hearing. We do not provide representation at the hearing, but we help clients prepare to represent themselves in court.

Government Benefits
We provide counsel and advice to custodial parents having problems with Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) including:
Cash assistance
Job training
Childcare
Food stamps
Other emergency benefits

We also help with problems concerning:
SSI
SSDI
Social Security
Medi-Cal
Denti-Cal
Medicare
General Relief
Food Stamp Programs

Tenant/Landlord Disputes
Santa Monica residential eligible low-income tenants may seek assistance when they are:
Being evicted
Having problems with the condition of their apartment
Having problems obtaining security deposits
Being harassed by the landlord
Experiencing any other kind of residential housing problem

We provide first-come, first-served interviews at our clinics, by appointment only, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. We also provide individual daytime consultations by appointment.
