The Homeowners Rights Project
The Homeowners Rights Project is a project within the LAFLA's
Consumer Law unit dedicated to advocacy on behalf of low-income
homeowners.
Eligible homeowners facing foreclosure or other loss of their home, can receive counsel and advice through our daily hotline service. Loan document review is available by appointment. Call (323) 801-7957. Representation is available for appropriate cases.
Generally, we protect homeowners from the various schemes and scams that operate to deprive them of their homes. Though many of our clients live in South Central, we provide information and assistance to eligible homeowners throughout LAFLA's service area. Many are elderly with a significant amount of equity in their homes.
We work to prevent the loss of the client's home or the loss of equity in the property by intervening in:
| Unconscionable loan transactions | |
| Forged deeds and title problems | |
| Fraudulent foreclosures | |
| Unlawful lending practices |
We remove unlawful liens against property, restore lawful title, confront elder financial abuse, and fight unqualified home-improvement contractors.
