| Karla Barrow oversees a staff of six attorneys and legal advocates who provide legal services in the areas of family law, consumer law, housing/unlawful detainers and government benefits to residents of Santa Monica. Barrow also supervises the Inglewood and Santa Monica Self Help Legal Access Center and the Santa Monica Domestic Clinic, both located in Santa Monica Courthouse and available to individuals who may not otherwise qualify for LAFLA’s services. Barrow joined LAFLA in 1999 as a staff attorney representing clients with government benefits and employment law issues. She also has an extensive background in regulatory and policy issues as they relate to compliance within State and Federally run benefits programs. Furthermore, she is involved in the training of other attorneys and direct services providers regarding welfare reform and other issues that impact poor and low-income individuals. She was instrumental in the passage of the Living Wage Campaign in Santa Monica, and also won a judgment securing over 10 years of retroactive benefits to a mentally ill client in excess of $100,000. An article about the case and its impact on Medi-Cal recipients was published in the Santa Monica Bar Journal. She received a Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law and is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar.
