Salary: $48,686 - $77,506/annual DOE, excellent benefits

Program Description
The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) is the oldest
and largest law firm for low-income people in California and is
currently accepting applications for the position of Attorney
for our West Community office.
The Organization: LAFLA (www.LAFLA.org) consists of approximately 150 employees, and over 60 attorneys. The program has an annual operating budget of more than fourteen million dollars, and operates six neighborhood offices and four court-based offices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Active membership in the California State Bar
- Litigation experience and Superior Court trial experience
- Experience with diverse client population
- Experience handling a variety of consumer legal matters, including predatory lending and foreclosure-related fraud cases.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Under supervision of the Directing Attorney
- Interview and counsel clients
- Research consumer law issues
- Analyze facts and law and plan case strategy
- Draft pleadings, legal documents, trial memoranda, appellate briefs and community education materials
- Negotiate case settlements, when appropriate
- Participate in community education activities
- Make court appearances on law and motion and discovery matters
- Try cases in Superior Court and pursue appeals in appropriate cases
- Engage in progressively complex litigation, as experience increases
- Mentor less experienced attorneys, paralegals and volunteers.
