Position: Intake Screener

Salary: $27,494 - $37,910/annual DOE, excellent benefits

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) is the largest law firm for low-income people in California and is currently accepting applications for the position of Intake Screener for our Govenment Benefit Unit at our South Central Community office.
The Organization:
LAFLA (www.LAFLA.org) consists of approximately 150 employees,
and over 60 attorneys. The program has an annual operating budget
of more than fourteen million dollars, and operates six neighborhood
offices and four court-based offices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with diverse cultures with tact and sensitivity
- Ability to handle a high volume of walk-in clients and calls
- Office and telephone experience required
- Ability to learn software programs and office systems
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with professional staff, perform client advocacy and engage in community outreach
- Demonstrated ability to function professionally and effectively within a highly stressful environment
- Multilingual skills preferred.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Is responsible for full eligibility screening of all clients requesting legal assistance
- Utilizing manual and/or electronic systems and methods, is responsible for all telephone screening in regard to: immigration status, legal problem clarification, communication of brief service advice under supervision of attorneys, advocacy with government agencies, setting of appointments as directed by screening guidelines, referrals to appropriate agencies or private attorneys as required
- Provides adequate and appropriate instructions and information to clients regarding appointment preparations and/or requirements
- Prepares all client intake documentation and transmits to appropriate LAFLA community offices
- Maintains familiarity with pro per materials through continuing education and orientation
- Performs other screening duties as assigned and/or required.
